Hives coordinate public EcoTours, EcoFilm screenings, and host free monthly community meet-ups at which subject matter experts present on various sustainability challenges both locally and globally. Sustainable Development starts with issue awareness.

The Hive then implements at least one solution per month through monthly Umuganda Community Action Days. The Hive develops on-going, scalable projects, and advocates for sustainable practices. By aggregating the impact of Local actions, the Hive becomes a part of the Global solution!

SDG - Focused

The Hive utilizes the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as a framework for education and action. In 2015 this audacious plan to end poverty, fight inequality and tackle climate change was agreed upon by 193 countries. Comprised of 17 Goals, each broken down into measurable targets, the SDGs provide a common language and common direction for parties around the globe to work together in meaningful ways.

As Hives around the world work Locally toward the achievement of these goals, we create a Global impact.

Community-Led

Each Hive determines its own sustainability priorities and uses the process of education, stakeholder engagement and ideation to create solutions that they are able to implement locally. When people work together in this way, communities become more cohesive and resilient while building capacity to take on new and different challenges.

Replicable & Adaptable

The Hive model is reproducible almost anywhere, because the basic premise of the Hive is about getting communities together to discuss local sustainability issues. Whether you rent a venue, occupy a public space, or host it in a home, the Hive is adaptable to the resources of a given community. Hives worldwide direct their own destiny. Because they are community-led, local leaders can adapt the program to suit their community's needs and direction.
